Get Outside Your Comfort Zone
Getting outside your comfort zone is very unnerving but is also one of the most rewarding things you can do. In fact, it is the basis for all growth!
In fact, getting outside your comfort zone is, well, uncomfortable! But what is it that makes it so?
Think back to when you were a child. As I think back, in many ways I was completely unencumbered and did not worry about a thing. And that's, I think, natures way of getting young people to grow up - to try things. At some point when I was so young, I started to think more about what I was doing...and was tempted to hold myself back more.
This is the dilemma we feel with getting out of our comfort zone. the comfort zone is there for a reason; through experience, we found that this was a safe place to go.
The problem is that things change. What was successful at one point may not be any longer.
Another problem is that we often associate the wrong situations with each other, thus misapplying what we learned - and preventing ourselves the opportunity to grow and learn.
How to get out of your comfort zone
One of the best ways to get outside your comfort zone is to attack just one small thing each day...and begin to build the muscle, day after day, that will finally prevail. But it does take day to day effort, and you will be best served to treat it as a daily activity by giving yourself a reminder, a motivator, or a prayer on a daily basis that will keep you fresh and strong.
Consider this quote from the late Zig Ziglar, one of my favorites from over the years:
"People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily."
-- Zig Ziglar: American author, salesman, and motivational speaker (1926-2012)
So, make it a practice to get outside of your comfort zone on a daily basis! Think about a problem you are facing, and possible solutions. Try to think objectively about the best solution, without consideration for how comfortable you might feel with the solution. In the end, pick the best solution, and move forward boldly - outside your comfort zone or not. It's the surest way to build confident, take your experience and performance to the next level, and be more effective.
